The objective of SAS-Mark standards for MRL is to suggest friendly standards for the use of pesticides in the food business, the evaluation of residue is not that easy and the producer needs to work with the information which is available to get hold of the behavior of residue. SAS team on the control of pesticides residue assesses the data of pesticide residue in food and environment which is used according to GAP in order to evaluate the minimum residue level in food and feed commodities.
GAP stands for Good agriculture practices and under this, a pesticide can be used for controlling pests in an effective way, the use of pesticide leaves a residue which practicable and this use of pesticide must be safe for the consumer and it should not pose any kind of harm on the environment as well.
The element which can affect human beings and nature need to be identified systematically and through common names. Things like CAS number, chemical formulae, physicochemical properties information like melting point, solubility in water, vapor pressure, etc, can provide the required assistance in the understanding of the stability of products that are formulated and fate and residue movements.
In food and feed commodities studying the metabolism of crops and livestock (animal) is a basic factor of residue definition. For studying the metabolism of substances that are radiolabeled are being used so that the following the disposition of residue becomes a little bit easy. The residue of pesticide in the soil can influence the nature and MRL in the crops, especially for soil and in the treatment of seeds in this case rotational crops study will come effect as it will help in designing the nature and pesticides residue level which can occur in the crop which has been sowed.
If there is an increase in residue level in the processed commodity then we would suggest estimating MRL for the processed commodity. The residue of food which can be the result of using external animal treatment is also required to be taken into the account The dietary burden of pesticide residue for animals is calculated from lower residues and STMRs for feeding commodities multiplied by the standard diet of livestock.
Food residues that are results of using external animal pesticide treatments are required to be taken into account as well. In the dermal metabolism study, the external animal treatments evaluations are also required to be taken into account.
General Principles for MRLs
MRLs are required to be set on the lowest possible level and should be consistent with GAP (Good Agriculture Practice). The trials results of supervised residue trials have been conducted under the conditions which are representing Critical Good Agriculture Practice (cGAP) as they form the basis for estimating MRLs for pesticides in plant origin.
